Title:  Cafeteria Support Worker (Beaumont Campus)

Reports To: Cafeteria Manager                                             

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt / Part-Time

Department: Food Services

Pay Grade:  CFO or CF1, depending upon educational level

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Keeps the working areas of the cafeteria and kitchen clean, sanitized, safe, attractive, comfortable and efficient.  Keeps fixtures and equipment in working order. Assists kitchen with any kitchen-related needs. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

•High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or higher preferred

•Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by candidate

•Must have Food Handlers Certification from an (ANSI) American National Institute Standards accredited program or obtained during employment. Certifications not accredited by ANSI must be registered with the Texas Department of State Health Services

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

•Working knowledge of custodial equipment, industrial kitchen equipment and food production

•Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment

•Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

•Manual skills and endurance necessary to perform work duties

•Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

•Must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally in English

•Knowledge of principles of quantity food preparation

•Knowledge of basic measurements for dry and liquid ingredients

 

Experience: Preferably (1) year work experience in an institutional, commercial, or restaurant establishment to include cooking, serving, cleaning and sanitation or cashier experience in a food service establishment

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Follows the lead of the Assistant Kitchen Manager when the Kitchen Manager is not present.
  2. Keeps cafeteria area neat and clean at all times; cleans kitchen and dining room area daily, sweeping, mopping, keeping spills wiped up, scrubbing and polishing floors as directed; cleans restrooms as assigned, and deposing of trash.
  3. Responsible for maintaining garbage collection containers and cleaning trash cans routinely.
  4. Sets up tables in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch service.
  5. Helps monitor in the cafeteria at breakfast and lunch if not assisting with receiving.
  6. Sanitizes all dining room tables and chairs at the end of each school day.
  7. Work around any meetings or special activities that may be in session during work hours.
  8. Mops and cleans walk-in refrigerator.
  9. Washes windows, doors, shelving, carts and equipment.
  10. Lifts and carries boxes and containers of food and cafeteria supplies.
  11. Reports accident and potential safety hazards to supervisor; reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  12. Inspects for insects and/or rodent problems and reports to supervisor.
  13. Moves equipment from one location to another if needed.
  14. Replaces and maintains custodial supplies and cleaning equipment. Report low supplies to supervisor.
  15. Communicates positively with supervisor, acting supervisor, administrators, students, coworkers, school staff and parents.
  16. Uses Early Release days to get extra cleaning duties done in the cafeteria and kitchen.
  17. Keeps regular attendance and punctuality which are essential functions of the job.

  19. Some travel to other campuses within district as needed.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands: Understands verbal and written instructions; receive directives as assigned; meet established deadlines; maintains emotional control under stress; reading; comprehension

 

Tools/Equipment Used: All custodial equipment to include mops, brooms, buffer, auto scrubber, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer and extractor, power washer, and propane burnisher and other equipment as needed; uses large and small kitchen equipment; ovens; dishwasher; and food and utility cart; computer with appropriate software.
