Hughen Center is now hiring for Residential Aides to work full time, part time and as needed (P.R.N.) in its Home and Community-Based Services program assisting adults with intellectual/physical disabilities. Jobs will remain open until filled. Shift hours vary for the programs as follows (most shifts include holidays)*:
Saturdays: 12 midnight to 12 p.m.
Saturdays: 12 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.
Sundays: 12 midnight to 12 p.m.
Sundays: 12 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.
M-F: 12 midnight to 8 a.m.
M-F: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
M-F: 4:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
M-F: 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
*Scheduled work hours and job duties may change according to needs of program.
The Home and Community-based Services (HCS) at Hughen Center is a division of The Hughen Center, Inc. HCS is a program, licensed through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, that provides individualized services and supports people with intellectual/physical disabilities living in a group home where no more than four people live. The local authority provides service coordination.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Residential Aide is responsible for providing care, supervision and training, for residents of the Group Home(s). The residential aide is responsible for providing quality and safe direct care in order that clients can reach their greatest potential and level of independence. The Residential Aide must possess a mature approach and a sympathetic/empathic attitude toward people with disabilities and the elderly. The Residential Aide must be able to read, write, and carry out directions in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
Proof of high school diploma from an accredited school or G.E.D. equivalency. One year paid work experience in providing care to persons with disabilities preferred.
Certifications, License, Registrations:
Must possess a current Texas driver license, clear MVR, TB and drug screenings. Must not possess a criminal record that would prohibit the person from working with people with disabilities. C.N.A. certification preferred, but not mandatory

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Summary:
- Responsible for providing quality and safe direct care (assisting with activities of daily living and independent living tasks (dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, etc.) in order that individuals can reach their greatest potential and level of independence.
- Must possess a mature approach and a sympathetic/empathic attitude toward people with disabilities and the elderly
- Demonstrate respect for clients and their rights. Protect the individuals’ rights to privacy and personal property. Holds individual’s personal information confidential. Observes procedures for handling resident’s money.
- Implement the Individual Service Plan specific to each individual and providing appropriate and safe techniques in assisting with activities of daily living and independent living tasks (dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, etc.). Provides assistance in all needed areas.
- Demonstrate knowledge and use of all learned information during the training videos, training sessions, etc. (Confidentiality, Abuse and Neglect, Universal Precautions, Safety and Accident Prevention, and Infection Control).
- Demonstrate safe transfer and ambulation techniques for each participant.
- Participate actively in Service Planning meetings for individuals.
- Provides assistance in all needed areas, supervision and training, for individuals.
- Monitor medication and carries out other health related tasks (as trained by the licensed nurse).
- Act as a positive role model by interacting with the residents in ways that promote a good self-concept independence and age appropriateness.
- Perform other tasks as assigned including all recommendations from counseling, therapy services, dietary needs, etc. (positioning, range of motion, etc.).
- Shop or complete errands for individuals as needed by the individual such as doctor and therapy appointments, shopping, community activities, etc., and assists in providing transportation in accordance with state laws.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and eating and ensures adequate intake of nutrition and fluid intake.
- Immediately report changes in individuals’ body functioning to the licensed nurse. Recognizes emergency situations and the appropriate action to take. In life threatening emergencies, notify 911 then page the licensed nurse.
- Perform household duties as assigned as it pertains to the individuals’ plan.
- Maintains a clean and healthy environment.
- Assist the individuals with developing and implementing community inclusion activities, as well as, facilitating social interaction and positive behavior.
- After each shift, detailed progress notes are completed on each individual. Any important information will be verbally told to the oncoming shift and written in the logbook, i.e. medication changes, clients conditions, etc.
- Participate/attend in scheduled department and All Staff Meetings or trainings. Participate in outside agency training as directed by the Group Home Manager. All agency required training is current.
- May evacuate with client(s) to designated facility should the need arise.
- Report incidents and submit incident reports.
- Maintain ongoing training hours and attend all mandatory trainings.
- Maintain tuberculosis screening annually.
- Maintain adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications.
- Evacuate with client(s) to designated facility should the need arise (work schedule may be modified).
- Must be able to read, write, and carry out directions in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
Must have good health in order to maintain an acceptable attendance record as established by the agency. Must be able to assist with lifting objects or residents (a minimum of 50 pounds for a one person lift and 150 pounds for a two person lift) utilizing approved techniques.
