Title: Cafeteria Support Worker (Baytown Campus)
Reports To: Cafeteria Assistant Manager
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt / Part-Time
Department: Food Services
Pay Grade: CFO or CF1, depending upon educational level
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Work under moderate supervision to prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or higher preferred
- Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by candidate
- Must have Food Handlers Certification from an (ANSI) American National Institute Standards accredited program or obtained during employment. Certifications not accredited by ANSI must be registered with the Texas Department of State Health Services
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment and food production
- Manual skills and endurance necessary to perform work duties
- Ability to follow instructions
- Knowledge of principles of quantity food preparation
- Knowledge of basic measurements for dry and liquid ingredients
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Food Preparation and Serving
- Prepare quality food for breakfast, lunch, and snack food items as assigned by manager.
- Replenishes food during serving time.
- Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures, and practive and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
- Store and handle food items and supplies safely and according to established procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
Safety and Sanitation
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
- Maintains the storage and care of food items and supplies; maintains a clean and organized storage area.
- Keeps product in the freezer, refrigerator and dry storage areas neat and organized, kept with like product.
Other
- Handle and record cashier functions accurately and utilize System Designs.
- Maintain stock room and assist with deliveries.
- Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
- Maintain daily food preparation records.
- Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
- Work cooperatively and safely with staff and co-workers.
- Complete annual training requirements.
- Rotates all positions/stations in the kitchen as assigned by the cafeteria manager.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Take temperatures and records on temperature log, food being receive and delivered.
- Sets up tables in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch service.
- Helps monitor in the cafeteria at breakfast and lunch if not assisting with receiving.
- Work around any meetings or special activities that may be in session during work hours.
- Reports accident and potential safety hazards to supervisor; reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
- Moves equipment from one location to another if needed.
- Replaces and maintains custodial supplies and cleaning equipment. Report low supplies to supervisor.
- Communicates positively with supervisor, acting supervisor, administrators, students, coworkers, school staff and parents.
- Keeps regular attendance and punctuality which are essential functions of the job.

- Some travel to other campuses within the district as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands: Understands verbal and written instructions; receive directives as assigned; meet established deadlines; maintains emotional control under stress; reading; comprehension
Tools/Equipment Used: All custodial equipment to include mops, brooms, buffer, auto scrubber, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer and extractor, power washer, and propane burnisher and other equipment as needed; uses large and small kitchen equipment; ovens; dishwasher; and food and utility cart; computer with appropriate software.
