PRIMARY PURPOSE

To help maintain the physical school building in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or greater, preferred

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures

Spanish speaker (Preferred)

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical and electrical throughout district. 

             
Special Knowledge/Skills: 
-Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
-Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
-Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
-Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

-Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures

-Ability to operate hand and power tools

-Ability to work independently

 


Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in maintenance work


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  1. Repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
  2. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  3. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  4. Complete repairs as directed on work orders. (Ticket System)
  5. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

Safety

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  2. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  3. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  4. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Equipment Used: 
Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL
Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education.  Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus.  Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Baytown, Texas.  The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
